International Programs developed and operated by the institution:

Kanto International Studies Program:
Lincoln Memorial has, since 1979, a relationship with the Kanto International High School in Tokyo, Japan, the primary focus being Conversational English. Since its inception, approximately 4000 students have cycled through the program, held on Lincoln Memorial's campus for eight weeks (there are two eight-week sessions per academic year: one in fall term and one in spring) and specifically designed for Kanto School students. Other courses taught in the program include Speech, Reading, English Composition, Fine Arts and American History.

World School:
The concept for World School began six years ago as the idea of the Chairman of the Kanto School in Tokyo, Dr. Masaki Matsudaira. Four previous World School forums have taken place in Japan, and groups of Lincoln Memorial students have attended. Lincoln Memorial University was selected to be the first insitution out of Japan to host World School. It will go back to Japan in 2003, and in 2004, to England and Germany, who will co-host the event. Being selected to host the first forum outside of Japan was a major tribute to the United States and to Lincoln Memorial University. Below is information from Lincoln Memorial's brochure explaining World School 2002.

A "Global Odyssey" Into Personal and Social Development

The 21st Century -- "The Age of Internationalization"
The World School was designed to be a place where young people who will be leaders, and the educators who guide them, will work together to find an ideal educational programs designed for the world community.

Lincoln Memorial University hosted 14 countries at its campus overlooking the beautiful Cumberland Gap.

The intent of World School is to provide an environment where students and educators can come together from throughout the world for the common purpose of creating a model educational program--a program that reflects a global perspective as expressed by a truly borderless commuinity of learners and educators.

Members from all over the world are linked by the internet and exchange information, study together, and discover more about each other. Once a year members have an opportunity to come together, have discussions, learn more about this world, and form friendships.

The 14-day agenda attracted more than 6,000 visitors to Tennessee and Lincoln Memorial University. The World School will continue to pursue new ideas, explore the world, and work hard to create an educational environment that will foster the kind of international outlook needed by young people for the new millenium.
