The Appalachian College Association Choral Lending Library exists to provide a structure for participating choral directors to borrow music from each other according to the guidelines below.

Currently, our Lending Library contains more than 9,000 titles, including choral anthems, single choral arrangements and compositions, as well as major choral works.

How It Works:

  • Method 1: A database of participating choral libraries is maintained and mailed to choral directors, usually on a CD. This file may be searched, and the appropriate choral director may be contacted when an item is selected. (Plans are in the works for placing this database online.)

  • Method 2: Participants are enrolled on a listserv maintained by the ACA. When a participant wishes to borrow a particular item, he/she sends an email message to the listserv. All participants will receive a copy of the request.

  • Arrangements: If an item is available for loan, the lender will respond to the borrower. Arrangements for delivery must be made directly between the lender and the borrower.

Guidelines for Participants:

Participants in this program must:

  1. Be a director of choral music at an ACA institution.

  2. Agree to cooperative guidelines as published below.

  3. Agree to participate as a lender to participating ACA institutions.

Guidelines for Borrowers:

Borrowers will be responsible for:

  1. Mailing costs to and from the lending institution.

  2. Erasure of all rehearsal marks.

  3. Any lost or damaged copies of music, not to exceed replacement cost.
