Web Site Launched

The religion and philosophy section of the Virtual Center is now online.  The Virtual Center, sponsored by the Appalachian College Association, is a set of webs designed to serve as teaching tools for faculty in the various ACA colleges and universities.

The purposes of the religion and philosophy section of the Virtual Center are:

  • to serve as a teaching resource for teachers of religious studies and philosophy

  • to provide opportunities for collaborative work in pedagogy in religion and philosophy

What's Going to Be in the Religion and Philosophy Virtual Center?

We have great dreams for the Virtual Center.   Here are some ideas:

  • News releases of new projects or special events on your campus

  • Webliographies for you and your students to use in your courses

  • Discussion forums for both students and faculty

  • Feature reviews of new literature in religion and philosophy (especially publications by ACA faculty!)

ACA Faculty Group Launches Biblical Languages Project

A team of eight religious studies faculty from four different ACA schools are preparing to launch a web site to facilitate the teaching of biblical Hebrew and Greek.  Called the "Biblical Languages Lab," the site will feature a wide array of interactive helps to aid both students and faculty in the biblical languages.

The coordinator of the project is Dr. Bob Dunston, Chair and Professor of Religion at Cumberland College.  Others involved in the project include Garland Young from Cumberland; Tim Crawford and Ken Lyle from Bluefield College; Dwayne Howell and John Hurtgen from Campbellsville University; and Wade Bibb and Walter Crouch from Carson-Newman College.

The web sites will feature grammar reviews and interactive exercises that can be used collaboratively by biblical language students at the four sponsoring institutions and eventually at all ACA schools.  The project is scheduled for its formal kick-off in August of 2001 in time to be used in Fall 2001 classes.
