Tutor Training

The 1997 ACA Culpeper-funded "Communicating in the 21st Century: Writing Across the Curriculum at Private Colleges of the Mountains" began with the belief that writing and technology are integral to all disciplines.  Since 1997, we have been actively involved with private colleges in the Appalachian region.  Several projects have involved the training of tutors to serve writing centers that in turn serve students and faculty at colleges with strong writing expectations across the curriculum.  One cluster project, Tutor.edu, created an on-line tutor training manual consisting of fourteen modules that can be used individually or collectively by writing center directors or instructors as a semester course. The manual covers topics such as writing center publicity, ethics, documentation styles, and research strategies. The site contains exercises and additional resources for students and faculty.
